MADANI Endline Data Collection, FHI360 – USAID, July – September 2023.

The MADANI Endline Data Collection was conducted in 31 districts in six provinces of Indonesia, i.e.: West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sulawesi, Banten, and West Kalimantan. The study aims to identify the changes that have occurred in government accountability, community tolerance and diversity, the role of civil society, quality of frontline services, maternal, and child Health (MCH), planning and budgeting, and natural resource governance, and the factors associated with those changes. In addition, this Endline Data Collection allowed MADANI to understand the changes and the factors associated with the changes (if any). The study applied quantitative data collection using Computer-assisted personal interviews (CAPI) over face-to-face and a few over phone call interviews.

MADANI Social Network Analysis (SNA) Endline Survey, FHI 360 – USAID, July – October 2023.

The MADANI Social Network Analysis (SNA) Endline Survey was conducted in 31 districts in six provinces of Indonesia, i.e.: West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sulawesi, Banten, and West Kalimantan. The objective of the study was to measure how the relationships and networks of Lead Partners develop over time, which was conducted annually by MADANI. SNA survey data equipped MADANI creating network maps to illustrate linkages and gaps between actors. Quantitative metrics (i.e., mean degree and centrality) were used to identify key conduits between actors, and the “size” of each network and help the project team target support to specific learning forum members via lead partners. The SNA helped the MADANI team better understand district CSO networks focused on specific thematic areas (health, inclusive education, solid waste management, village fund transparency, religious and youth intolerance) before, during, and after the establishment of the Learning Forum The survey applied a quantitative data collection technique which was conducted over phone calls or Computer-assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI).

MADANI Midline Data Collection, FHI360 – USAID, December 2021 – March 2022.

The study was conducted in 31 districts in six provinces of Indonesia, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sulawesi, Banten, and West Kalimantan. The midline data enables MADANI to assess progress for each of the MADANI’s indicators, identify constraints and challenges when implementing the program activities, and obtain lessons on ‘what works and does not work and why’. The study also captures public awareness of activities, programs, and engagements of local CSOs who received support and technical assistance from MADANI.

Angkot Operator/Crew Qualitative Study, the World Bank, June 2022 – February 2023.

The study was conducted in Greater Bandung (West Java Province) and Medan-Binjai-Deli Serdang (North Sumatera Province). The study had the following objectives (i) to understand the characteristics of the existing angkot industry structure, its incentives framework, and linked businesses, (ii) to assess the socio-economic profile of the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) (i.e. angkot owners, owner-cum-drivers, permanent or temporary drivers and other crew); (iii) to assess the potential implications of the BRT project on livelihoods and working conditions of these PAPs as well as indirect impacts on linked businesses, and (iv) to gather the PAPs’ perceptions of the proposed BRT plan, concerns, and expectations with regard to the BRT.

Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in the Framework of Mass Transportation Development in Bandung, World Bank, 09-31 March 2021.

The Urban Mobility User Survey collects data related to the Mass Transit system in the Bandung Basin Metropolitan Area (BBMA) to provide insights that helped to promote gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in public transportation. The objective of the study was to provide support to the World Bank towards promoting gender equality and social inclusion in mass transit systems in BBMA by conducting urban mobility user surveys, analyzing the data gathered through surveys, and carrying out other market research actions. The study took place in the sample area of BBMA, including Kota Cimahi, Kabupaten Bandung, Kabupaten Bandung Barat, and Kabupaten Sumedang.

Impact Evaluation of Subnational Infrastructure Investment in Indonesia (road and market investments), The World Bank, 2021.

The impact evaluation focused on three infrastructure projects, i.e.: road investment project in Kabupaten Tapanuli Tengah-North Sumatera; a market construction investment project in Kota Banjarbaru-South Kalimantan; and a market revitalization investment in Jelojok, Kabupaten Lombok Tengah-West Nusa Tenggara. The study aimed to provide assistance for the impact evaluation of an investment project including two markets and a road project. The data was collected over face-to-face survey using CAPI and key informant interviews with relevant informants related with road and market investments impact, including households, businesses, and local government officials.

MADANI Baseline Data Collection, FHI360-USAID, April – November 2020.

MADANI Civil Society Support Initiative is a five-year USAID-funded project implemented by FHI 360. Before the project begins, MADANI conducts a baseline data collection aimed to provide initial information on key conditions which was used as a basis to monitor and assess the activities progress and effectiveness during implementation and after the project was completed. The data collection was conducted in all 32 MADANI partner districts with specific thematic areas, i.e.: frontline service delivery, social inclusion, access to priority sector, natural resource governance, diversity among youths, planning, and budgeting, and village fund transparency. The baseline data collection applied quantitative and qualitative methods through surveys and key informant interviews (KIIs).

Rural Poverty Assessment, Field Survey Round 1 (Nov 2018 – March 2019) and Round 2 (August 2019 – October 2019), The World Bank.

The assignment was carried out in two (2) rounds. The first round was carried out in Central Java, North Sumatera, and East Nusa Tenggara Province; while the second round was in East Java, South Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi Province. The objective of this survey was to obtain field survey data on the following areas: Cash-for-work (Padat Karya Tunai/PKT), Local Economic Development, and Village-owned Enterprises (Badan Usaha Milik Desa/BUMDes). The data collections were carried out over CAPI survey to the following respondents of District Officials, Village Heads or representatives, Director of BUMDesa or representatives, Business Entity representatives, Business Group representatives, and Households.
