Indonesia Independence Day

All regions and elements in society commemorate the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day through a flag ceremony every August 17, 2023. Apart from that, as a form of gratitude for the Republic of Indonesia’s independence, all elements of society hold competitions and thanksgiving (tumpengan). REDI participated in commemorating and enlivening the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia by holding various competitions such as cracker eating competitions, competitions for inserting nails into marbles (kelereng), as well as competitions that required teamwork, namely competitions for wearing the hijab and applying make-up. This competition was attended by all REDI staff and student interns. The winners of the competition took home prizes in the form of a microwave and toaster oven.

The commemoration of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day is a momentum to remember the long struggle of the Indonesian people to seize independence from colonialists. Apart from that, every year, the commemoration of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day becomes a vehicle for creative and unique expression from various Indonesian people, including in terms of fashion/clothing, types of competitions, and participants, as well as prizes given to the winners.
