Consulting Services for Financial Inclusion Scoping Mission: Promoting Rural Income through Support for Markets in Agriculture at Household and Community Levels

The Australia-Indonesia Partnership – Promoting Incomes Through Support to Markets in Agriculture (PRISMA). The role of agriculture extension services is to facilitate farmers in agriculture production, to solve farmers’ problems, to provide new information regarding agriculture methods and technology, and to increase their welfare. Not all extension services are conducted face to face by the public extension workers (Petugas Penyuluh Lapangan or PPL). Extension services can be conducted by other related actors such as agriculture input suppliers, agriculture retail kiosks, collectors, fellow farmers, or other information sources such as media. Relevant and timely information can be very beneficial for farmers in making agriculture decision.

This survey will provide PRISMA with a deeper understanding regarding farmers’ information sources, the types of information they received, as well as their mindset. This allows PRISMA to solve farmer’s problems by using the proper media to convey the new information regarding agriculture methods and technology. This survey to result information about the usage of mobile/smartphone by farmers as one of the factors to consider in developing and implementing interventions related to information and communications technology (ICT). The study resulted in a broad overview about extension services in the research areas that will be used as a consideration to develop and implement interventions related to extension services.
