Employer Data Collection Survey (CAPI Survey)

Employer Survey Data Collection is an activity of USAID Mitra Kunci Initiative designed to fill the information gap of how poor and vulnerable youth interact with the labor market, identify their obstacles in accessing information and transforming that into actionable opportunities, and what obstacles employers face in recruiting and hiring poor and vulnerable youth. The survey was conducted by collecting data on the field (field research) and applying quantitative approach, emphasizing on the analysis of numerical data or quantified findings.

The collected data takes shape in the form of operational variables under certain scales of measurements. For the quantitative approach, the use of statistical method is very dominant in describing the research results, figuring out the correlation between variables, and testing the validity of the theories being referred to. Furthermore, the study applies descriptive analyses to reach the stated research objectives.

The survey was carried out in the following provinces and districts: East Java (Surabaya Municipality and Greater Malang), Central Java (Kota Semarang, Kabupaten Boyolali, and Kabupaten Demak), West Java (Greater Sukabumi), and Papua (Jayapura Municipality, Kabupaten Jayapura), and West Papua (Greater Sorong). The field data collection revealed that most firms gave good response to the survey, but some of the targeted firms refused to participate in the study. Overall, 25% of the firms visited refused to participate in the survey. 50% of the targeted firms were replaced due to some findings, i.e.: could not be visited due to a fake firm’s address and had closed their operations. The total sample firm of the study is 1,750 respondents but REDI completed surveying 1,775 respondents (101.43%), comprises of 1,219 business survey respondents in Java and 556 survey respondents in Papua.
